Welcome to the IGSM host city Hanover, the capital of the Federal State of Lower-Saxony with over 500,000 inhabitants. Besides being known for its industrie and trade fairs, Hanover is also one of the greenest cities in Germany. More than 40 parks belong to the over 11% of green space in the city. One of them is the city forest Eilenriede, which is almost twice as large as Central Park in New York. Around the University are the Herrenhausen Gardens, including the Herrenhausen Palace and the Baroque Garden, where theatre, festivals and the international fireworks competition take place. Another recreational area to visit is the Maschsee Lake next to the New Town Hall. To visit the main attractions you can follow the “Red Thread”, a 4 km long tour through the city.
